Charlotte, NC - PointGuard is honored to be included in Independent Research Firm’s Green Quadrant: IoT Platforms For Smart Buildings 2022 Report.

Verdantix Research’s The Green Quadrant is an industry leading report capturing the state of the market for various types of IoT platforms for smart buildings, the decision-making process for potential software buyers, and the capabilities of a select number of platform companies.

Shannon Smith, CEO of PointGuard, sat down to discuss the report’s findings.

Q: What makes the Green Quadrant Report so valuable?

A: “We have used a variety of Verdantix reports over the years to inform our own software development pipeline, as they offer a valuable insight into both our potential customer’s needs and the direction of our industry. The Green Quadrant report is an important benchmarking of the state of our industry and our position in it. Plus it helps buyers cut through the noise in the real estate software space.”

Q: What are some of PointGuard’s characteristics that separate it from competitors and/or worthy of being included in the Report?

A: “The Report notes that PointGuard scores high in our energy monitoring capabilities and capital expenditure tools. We have developed both of these features of the platform with our customers front of mind, so it is validating to hear that they are among our strengths. There are a number of fault detection software providers out there, so we need to keep new tools and features relevant to the building engineers that use them and the building owners that benefit from them.”

Q: The report also scores you against like software companies, so what does it say about why potential customers should choose you over a different solution?

A: “We offer a variety of software levels – from a single monthly report to the full suite of algorithms and tools for sophisticated engineer teams. This allows an organization to customize and control the data flow across their portfolio. We want to have software solutions that meet our customers where they are in their journey and team depth – like our Snapshot and Insights Reports. Verdantix’ report notes that our customization capabilities plus the platform’s reputation for driving facilities optimization forward makes PointGuard a long-term solution for building efficiency.”

Q: There are some ‘improvement opportunities’ included in the report, how does PointGuard plan to address their concerns about gaps in the software?

A: “The report does mention that PointGuard lags competitors in some areas, including ESG (Environmental Social Governance) data capture into the Platform. While we do have ESG adjacent data in the portal already that supports ESG reporting – like energy consumption, utility bills, M&V and calculated GHG, we do not have specific reporting around ESG. We have plans in the latter half of 2022 to deploy more specific metrics and tools – such as water and waste management data and potentially a specific report around ESG data. The report also points to a limited ability for tenants and occupants to participate in the software. In that vein, we previously had tenant engagement app called Goldilocks, that we are planning to relaunch in 2022.”

Q: Lastly, what about the future of the industry? What should companies be doing now to prepare for the future of the smart building’s landscape?

A: “I see the industry moving into more partnerships between different types of software that provide users with comprehensive solutions rather than piecemeal platforms. I am of the opinion that too many companies are saying the same thing and there is potentially too much capital chasing the same types of solutions. This results in buyer confusion. The best thing for the real estate software space is to create partnerships and collaborations and even consolidation so that buyers can move away from point solutions. We intend to announce additional partnerships in 2022 - like our partnership with ASI Controls last year.”
